Quality and reliability are critical values for the aerospace and defence industries. In an environment where the mistakes or failure of products can be fatal, the implementation and operation of an effective quality management system plays a vital role in reducing risks as well as providing a reliable framework for the provision of products or services.
Quality management systems have been used in the aerospace and defence industries for many years and led to the establishment of a single, common Quality Management System (AS9100, AS 9110 and AS9120). These accreditations are used and supported by the world's leading aerospace and defence companies and their supply chain partnerships.
AS9100 takes the ISO 9001:2008 quality management systems standard covering the entire manufacturing process and inserts aerospace industry-specific requirements. AS9100 also addresses flow-down of aerospace prime contractors’ quality management system requirements to the entire supply-chain and all sub-contractors. Flow-down includes specifications for parts or assembly designs, characteristics, inspections, and other process functions and product features.
